How Metamorphic Rock is Formed
Metamorphic rock is formed deep in the Earth where there is a lot of heat and pressure. This heat and pressure changes one rock into another.
Contact Metamorphism
Contact metamorphism occurs on rocks that are in direct contact with an igneous magma chamber.
Regional Metamorphism
Regional metamorphism affects a lagre area of ground and normally has no connection to igneous activity in the area.
Classifications of Metamorphic Rock.
Foliated: Foliated rocks are made of a mica-heavy rock that contains a lot of other minerals.
Example: Gneiss
Non-foliated: These are re-crystalized sedimentary rocks. The sedimentary rocks were re-crystalized by being in direct contact with hot magma.
Example: Marble
